The system is limited by its weakest component and by how forces are actually applied.
Working limits, minimum breaking strength and test loads describe different things. Dynamic movement, shock loading, angles, knots, connectors, anchors, wear and multi-point systems can multiply or redistribute forces. A rating on one component cannot certify the complete system or a building attachment.
Force at which a new specimen failed in a stated test; not a recommended working load.
Relatively steady force without substantial acceleration or impact.
Short, amplified force produced by movement, a fall, bounce or sudden stop.
Read the specification
Identify the manufacturer, model, rated direction, configuration, environmental limits and whether the figure is a working limit or destructive test result. Unlabelled hardware and marketplace claims are poor evidence.
Do not divide a breaking strength by an improvised safety factor and call the result safe. Product standards, competent design and the consequences of failure determine appropriate margins.
Whole-system forces
Include anchors, beams, stands, straps, ropes, knots, stitching, carabiners and attachment geometry. Side-loading a connector or widening a two-leg angle may greatly alter force.
Human movement is not a predictable dead weight. Avoid suspension or fall potential without purpose-designed equipment, a competent assessment and an independently reliable rescue plan.
Inspection and retirement
Follow inspection intervals based on manufacturer guidance, use and risk. Look for corrosion, deformation, cuts, glazing, chemical damage, loose fixings and illegible identification.
Remove equipment from service after overload, significant fall, uncertain history or failed inspection. Cosmetic appearance alone cannot reveal internal or fatigue damage.
Scope and competence
Workplace lifting rules can provide useful principles about planning, examination and competence, but do not certify leisure or intimate equipment. Building anchors require appropriate structural expertise.
Keep loads close to the floor where practicable, prevent head-first or uncontrolled falls, maintain supervision and never rely on one unverified component for life safety.
